The Passion of Latin Dance

Latin dance is a term used to generalize many different dance styles together, and although each one has its very complex sets of moves and routines, they all share some very common traits between them. Any of the dance styles that fall into this category are known as passionate, intricate and largely popular dance styles. Many of the more popular styles have even become regulars on the ballroom dancing circuit. It is this popularity that ensures that Latin dance and its ever present passion is one style that will never fade away, and do not for one second think that this is a purely Latino past time, as the Latin craze is a worldwide phenomenon.

The Differences of the Argentine Tango

The tango is a popular style of dance now more commonly associated with the ballroom dance halls of the world. The Argentine Tango on the other hand, is a style of evolution and updating. Although the dance moves have remained very similar to those of the older styles, the music now used to dance to have become far more varied. This is particularly true of the younger generations of tango dancers in Argentina, who have been known to use styles of music as varied as the blues, trip-hop, rock and roll, and even some of the more electronic music that is available. The dance is truly a sight to behold when performed in such a modern manner.

Defining the Two Types of Rumba

The rumba is a popular dance style all over the world, but most people do not realize that the same term is actually applied to two different kinds of dance. On the one hand, the term is associated with Afro-Cuban dancing that is very popular in Cuban communities the world over, while on the other hand, we are more accustomed to the Rumba as a ballroom dance style. No matter the style, the dance follows a few basic rules, meaning that either style is actually very similar to an outsider, but above all else, the dance is all about having a good time while you are at it.

Taking the Plunge into Latin Ballroom Dancing

Ballroom dancing has always had an air of elitism to those outside of the pastime, but to those in the know, the styles and dances performed can range from slow and steady, right the way through to upbeat and raunchy. Much of the more upbeat styles that are used in modern ballroom dancing can be attributed to the Latin styles of dance that have become more popular over the last century or so. Latin ballroom dancing is doing away with the stale old styles and bringing new life into what can only be considered a fun and passionate pastime.

Finding the Roots of the Mambo

The Mambo is a dance that proudly displays its Cuban origins, whether it is in the flair of the music that accompanies it, or the outfits that are now common part of ballroom displays of the dance. The style was born in Havana but quickly made its way over to Mexico where it was adopted in very little time. Unlike many other Latin dance styles, the Mambo is still performed today in a way that is very close to its origins. To this day, it is still a popular past time for residents of Havana and Mexico City, with classes being taught for people of all ages.

Dancing the Cha-Cha

The style of cha-cha dancing we know today was created by a Frenchman, who was influenced by Cuban music and dance of the era. He noticed that the dance moves begun on the second beat of the bar, and there was a split fourth beat creating a wholly unusual dance at the time. The style that he brought back to Europe would later become known as ballroom cha-cha, and is now practiced all over the world. More traditional forms of the dance are still popular in Cuba; however, the dance takes on a more sensual rhythm compared to the more popular upbeat form we now know.

Choosing a Dance School

While there are some individuals who are born to dancers, there are some people on the other hand who are willing to enroll in a dance school in order to learn or even develop their dancing skills. Although the popularity of these types of schools generally increases every single day, there are still some questions raised, and a number of doubts coming from various people at the same time. The primary concern is: when you enroll in a dance school, will it really make a difference? Would the student show a huge development with regard to his / her dancing skills?

As mentioned earlier, some are born with great feet – dancing runs in their genes and they are the ones who are pretty talented enough and can perform on stage even without formal lessons. On the other hand, there are some individuals who have the skills of dancing; it’s just that these skills need to be honed in order to for them to show their real potential. But, the primary question is, will it really make a difference when you enroll in a dancing school, or is it just considered as a complete waste of money?

The answer is – a huge difference can be noticed upon finishing dance classes. You can easily tell if someone had received formal lessons and you can easily determine those individuals who are born with talent, but have not received formal dancing education. Results may also depend on the type of dance school they would be enrolling in. this means that the contribution of the school itself plays a very essential role in this field. This is why it is highly important for you to choose the right dance school – regardless of the type of dance, no matter where you are.

There are specific guidelines that you may follow when it comes to choosing the right dance school. First and foremost, the school should at least have experience when it comes to the said field. The teachers themselves should be outstanding dancers. Aside from which, you may also check on the school’s reputation, as well as find out more about the students that have graduated from their program. You can easily determine whether the dance school is worth the time and the money or not. If the school is offering different programs and exposure, there is no doubt that they cannot just enhance or home the student’s dancing skills, but to also lift the student’s level of self-confidence.

To answer the question, a dance school can generally help. It will make a huge difference – given the fact that you enroll to a school that knows what they’re doing, and to a school with a good reputation in this industry.
